Welcome
This is the website of the non-white Advisory Board to the White Anti-Racist Team. The Board’s goal is to help raise white awareness of the benefits of claiming a white anti-racist identity.
The Problem: Whether in college, on the internet, in a workshop, through the media, or just in passing conversation, white people these days are hearing that they may actually not be the greatest thing since sliced bread. This is a very difficult pill for them to swallow. Some of them are tempted to reject the message entirely — thus depriving themselves of the opportunity to develop expertise in talking or writing about racism. Other white people begin to question whether they are good people and/or whether they truly have a right to the resources and benefits available to them as white people — thus increasing their risk of unemployment, depression, and even loss of life.
In these moments, all white people are at increased risk for a variety of ailments, including: over-defensiveness, paralysis by white guilt, lowered self-esteem, loss of optimal access to resources, and overall loss of identity.
The White Anti-Racist Team has a Solution: By claiming a white anti-racist identity, a white person will have the opportunity to be a “good white person” while being critical of racism while never risking the survival of the system of white supremacy and thus that white person’s own actual centrality and privilege.
Does it seem to good to be true? It’s not! Here’s How and Why It Works.
Who we are: This Advisory Board to the White Anti-Racist Team consists entirely of non-whites carefully vetted by the White Anti-Racist Team and/or by non-white members of this Board who themselves have been carefully vetted by the White Anti-Racist Team.
Our Task: Our task is to give the White Anti-Racist Team cover and to come up with ways to help keep non-whites from figuring out that the White Anti-Racist Team and its colleagues world-wide are working hard to maintain and strengthen the system of white supremacy by discoursing against the system of white supremacy while refusing to actually DO anything to dismantle the system of white supremacy.
The discussions about the how, where, and why to accomplish this take place on our Comments page.
Funding: Board members and this site receive generous monthly stipends from the Alliance of Academic White Anti-Racists (short: W.A.R.) at the University of Arizona in Tuscon as long as the board members keep doing what they are supposed to do.
